Therefore, in the Morgadio da Calçada LBV 2003, following superior ageing in wood we have created an LBV which is ready to drink now, but which also has the potential to age in bottle.Tasting NotesDark red in colour, exhibiting a very fine and fresh aroma dominated by spices and cocoa, along with very ripe fruit, with notes of plums and red berries; the aromas follow through on the palate with a firm , structured wine but with soft tannins, resulting in an elegant combination. Without doubt an LBV which guarantees immediate satisfaction, but can also benefit from laying down until 2015-2020. Since the wine has not undergone filtration it should be decanted prior to serving. As regards food pairing its very versatile, accompanies soft cheeses, soft blue cheese, bitter chocolate based desserts or even a pepper steak!VinificationThe grapes for this LBV 2003 were selected from low yielding vineyards in the Cima Corgo region of the Douro Valley. Fermentation occurred in traditional stone lagares, with foot treading. Ageing was carried out in large wooden vats, so as to avoid exaggerated oxidation of the wine, retaining all its fruit character and freshness, derived from the fermentation and fruit. To further enhance fruit and freshness the wine was bottled after 4 years ageing, the minimum time for LBV's.
