Morgadio da Calçada

Casa da Calçada’s History

Ordered to be built at the end of the seventeenth century, by the Judge Jerónimo da Cunha Pimentel, Casa da Calçada is one of the most ancient Mansions in Provezende. Later on, at the beginning of the eighteenth century, his brother, the sole heir, built the chapel dedicated to Saint Jerónimo, next to the house.

The construction of Casa da Calçada reflects a significant period in the progression of the family, namely in the increase of its importance, since they had become one of the major proprietors in the region. It is a huge building with great “enfilade” halls, testimony of a palatial tradition, keeping the original ceilings and colours in its interior and the époque furniture, where you can still enjoy the atmosphere of the great vineyard houses of the Douro region, in particular in the dining room, illuminated by candles.

Casa da Calçada

Many events took place at Casa da Calçada, since several of its proprietors held important positions till the advent of the Republic.

Its foundation dates back to the sixteenth century, since it’s first MORGADO was already its 4th owner.
